Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering
Saint Louis University, a Catholic, Jesuit institution dedicated to student learning, research, health care, and service, is seeking applicants for one tenured and two tenure-track faculty appointments in the Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering Department at Parks College of Engineering, Aviation and Technology, beginning Spring 2009 or Fall 2009. For the tenured faculty position, we are seeking a candidate with a doctorate in either aerospace or mechanical engineering, administrative experience, and a record of academic accomplishment meriting the tenured appointment. For the tenure-track faculty position in Aerospace engineering, we are seeking an applicant with expertise in the areas of space systems and spacecraft engineering.

ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING. The Department of Architectural Engineering at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo is seeking applications for full-time, academic year tenure track positions for the teaching of structural analysis, design, and construction of buildings. The National Research Council of the National Academies will offer competitive awards in 2009 for independent postdoctoral and senior scientific research to be conducted in residence at participating U.S. government laboratories. Opportunities for research are in all areas of science and engineering and many are open to non-US as well as US citizens. Awardees design their own projects to be compatible with the overall interests of the sponsoring laboratory. Annual stipends for recent Ph.D. recipients range from $42,000 - $72,000 depending upon sponsoring laboratory and are appropriately higher for additional experience. ENDOWED CHAIR POSITION IN MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
Applications are invited for one endowed Chair Professor in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Arkansas with a start date of August 2009. The research area is open. A major research area in the department is in nanotechnology and we would like to enhance the research areas of biomanufacturing and design. We are strongly looking to enhance our teaching in the areas of machine design and mechanics. Successful candidates will be expected to develop and teach graduate courses in their research area. The Department has 17 faculty members, an enrollment of over 330 students and an active research program supported by many MS and PhD students. CALIFORNIA STATE POLYTECHNIC UNIVERSITY, POMONA, Civil Engineering Department invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions. The successful applicants will have primary expertise in one of the following areas, with skills and interest in the application of this expertise to civil engineering practice:
• Water resources, hydrologic, and/or environmental engineering with expertise in water and wastewater treatment, hydrology, hydraulics, environmental engineering, water distribution systems, water reclamation, solid waste disposal, or similar topics, preferably with an interest in sustainable design practices. • Transportation engineering with expertise in transportation planning, geometric design, traffic engineering, traffic safety, ITS, transit, public policy, ports, railroads, freight transportation, or similar topics.
The Department intends to award the RBF Fellowship in water resources engineering to one of the successful applicants, and may have additional fellowships for the other positions.
The primary responsibilities for each position are to teach the theory and practice of civil engineering to both undergraduate and graduate students. Additional responsibilities include supervising student projects, advising students, serving on department, college, and university committees, enhancing laboratory facilities, generating external funding, and other related duties.
Applicants must satisfy the following minimum qualifications: (1) A Ph.D. or equivalent terminal degree in civil engineering or a closely-related field at the time of appointment; (2) A minimum of two years post-baccalaureate professional civil engineering work experience; and (3) Excellent written and oral communication skills. Professional registration as a licensed civil engineer in California will be required before tenure can be granted. Assistant Professor Construction Management
The Department of Construction Management in the Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology invites nominations and applications for a tenure-track construction engineering assistant professor position (req#590). Unless otherwise noted, the position reports to the Department Chair, is a 9-month appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The assistant professor will teach classes and laboratories, engage in scholarship, advise students, and perform service and other assignments as required by the department and University.
Required Qualifications: Applicant must have a strong background in construction-structural engineering as applied to buildings and structures within the United States. A minimum of one year of experience in building construction-structural engineering is highly desired and a strong background in related computer applications and involvement with preparation of construction documents for construction projects is also required. An earned Ph.D. (or completion of all Ph.D. requirements before employment commences) related to construction engineering discipline is highly desired. Evidence of a commitment to teaching and research/scholarship; ability to teach undergraduate courses and laboratories with the ability to work with diverse populations; and effective communication skills in spoken and written English are also required. Must be able to teach undergraduate engineering courses in concrete design, structural steel design, temporary structures, and statics. Certification as an AIC Certified Professional Constructor (CPC) and CSI’s Construction Documents Technologists (CDT) along with Professional Engineering (PE) registration will be required for tenure and promotion.
