Engineering Deans Council - Promoting Engineering Education and Careers Award

This award, sponsored by the ASEE Engineering Deans Council, recognizes those organizations that develop print, broadcast, or media directed toward influencing students in grades K-12 to enter engineering schools and to pursue an engineering career. The award is funded by the ASEE Engineering Deans Council and consists of a suitably inscribed plaque to be presented at the ASEE Engineering Deans Council luncheon held during the ASEE Annual Conference & Exposition.

Criteria: Qualifying entries must be those that are directed toward recruiting students in grades K-12 to pursue education and a career in engineering. Originality will be a key factor in the selection of the winning entry.

Nomination: Any member of ASEE may nominate an organization for this award. In addition, nominations may be submitted by the organization that sponsored or created the media for which the nomination is made. The award may be given in any year that the selection committee chooses a recipient from the candidates nominated. If no winning candidate is selected, the award will not be given.

The award consists of a $1,000 honorarium and a certificate, as well as $500 to defray travel costs to attend the Engineering Research Council (ERC) Forum where the award is presented.

  1. Research activity in one or more types of research ordinarily carried on by engineering colleges or institutes of technology.

  2. Achievement of important advances accepted by colleagues and by others in the field of specialization with emphasis on quality rather than quantity as well as sound and productive thinking and with a promise for making other significant contributions

Outstanding research abilities, including discoveries and other original contributions to engineering fundamentals; conceptions and improvements of laboratory techniques or devices; the publication of books, monographs and scholarly papers; and activities in educational professional societies.

Candidates must be under 40 years of age on June 30th of the year in which the award selection is made.
