Program Details
Description of the program
This ten-week intern program is designed to provide
opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students
to participate in research, under the guidance of
an appropriate research mentor, at a participating
Navy laboratory.
Evaluation Criteria
NREIP interns will be selected based upon academic
achievement, personal statements, recommendation,
and career & research interests.
Award duration and stipend
The internship has a duration of 10 weeks.
For undergraduate students
the stipend is $5,500.00 and for graduate students
$6,500.00
Stipends will be paid on the
15th of each month, May-July.
Eligibility
- Applicants must be U.S. Citizens. Permanent resident
aliens are considered by some laboratories. Please
contact lab coordinators for eligibility verification.
- Applicants must be enrolled at an eligible
college/university (comprised of approximately
166 institutions.)
- Applicants must be a Junior, Senior, or Graduate
student to apply. If you are a sophomore you
may still apply but you must have reached Junior
status before starting at the lab.
- Applicants should have majors relevant to the
research interests of the laboratories.
Deadlines
The last day to submit an application will be
January 14, 2008. References and transcripts
are due on January 14, 2008 by 5:30 PM Eastern Standard Time (EST).
Award Announcements
Awardees as well as Non-Awardees for the Summer 2008
NREIP Program will be notificed in Early-Mid March.
Research Start Dates
Start Dates will vary based upon the lab. The
earliest anyone can start at a lab is the first week
in May.
