JEE EDITOR POSITION DESCRIPTION

Editor, Journal of Engineering Education

The American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) seeks applications and nominations for the position of Editor for the Journal of Engineering Education (JEE). JEE is the premier journal for engineering education research, with a circulation of more than 8500 subscribers in nearly 80 countries. More information about the journal can be found on the website (https://www.asee.org/papers-and-publications/publications/jee) including a history of the journal and the 2011-16 Strategic Plan.

The Editor of JEE works with a team consisting of a deputy editor and senior associate and associate editors to establish and execute processes to maintain JEE's reputation as the leading research journal worldwide in engineering education. Among these processes are establishing and maintaining the editorial standards for the journal, managing the review and publication of papers, expanding global connections of the journal, and participating in events to expand the quantity and quality of engineering education around the world. Executing these responsibilities requires a commitment of at least one quarter-time, on average. Applicants should be recognized scholars in engineering education, be active members of ASEE, and be employed by an ASEE member institution. Applicants must document the capability to support a half-time editorial staff assistant for the duration of their term as Editor.

Applicants for the position should send (a) a cover letter including a summary of relevant experience, (b) a vision statement for the future JEE and a statement of their editorial philosophy, (c) a letter of institutional support from their dean for a half-time editorial assistant, (d) a full CV, and (e) a list of three references to Ms. Adrianne Troilo, Director of Human Resources for ASEE (humanresources@asee.org ). All materials should be sent as email attachments. Applications are due no later than September 30, 2016.

In addition, ASEE members may nominate outstanding candidates for consideration. Nominations should be sent to the Dr. Mary Besterfield-Sacre (mbsacre@pitt.edu), Chair of the JEE Editor Search Committee no later than September 1, 2016.

The JEE Search Committee, will review application materials, interview finalists, and submit recommendations to the Executive Director of ASEE, and ultimately to the ASEE Board of Directors. The target date for completing the selection process is March 1, 2017. The anticipated start date for the position is July 1, 2017.
