The agenda will be as follows. Introduction and activity to form small groups/build community - The purpose of this introduction is to define the goals and objectives for the session. An activity will follow to form small groups of students and faculty and create an atmosphere for later discussion. What is the Ph.D. Consortium in Engineering Education? – Facilitators will lead a discussion on the conversation that has lead the development of the Ph.D. Consortium thus far. Results of a graduate student needs assessment completed for the 2010-2011 academic year will be presented by members of the SCC Ph.D. Consortium Exploratory Committee. Development of a Mission Statement and Goals – Utilizing the small groups, each group will be tasked with developing a mission statement for the Ph.D. Consortium, based on the graduate student needs discussed, as well as the findings from previous workshops and sessions. Groups will present their proposed Mission Statements to the entire group. Presentation and Discussion of Proposed Action Plan – A proposed action plan, as developed by the SCC Ph.D. Consortium Exploratory Committee will be introduced. Each small group will be assigned a portion of the action plan to assess and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the steps, keeping in mind the Mission Statements from the previous activity. Debrief and Finalize Next Steps – This workshop is meant to spearhead the next phase in the development of the Ph.D. Consortium in Engineering Education; therefore, the participants are meant to leave with a strong understanding of the next phases and opportunities to get involved with future components of the action plan.
