This session provides best practices for new and intermediate-level directors of Women in Engineering Programs. There are few courses or guides that provide clear instructions or strategic guides for organizational positioning, management, and success in increasing the retention and graduation rates of women in engineering. Topics covered will include a review of the most effective retention program models, fund raising and sustainability, staffing, and programming tips that create an effective learning community for women in engineering. Participants will hear from experienced practitioners and receive a guide with presentation materials and research information upon which successful programs are built.
Purpose: To provide resources to new and current programs serving underrepresented students in STEM.
Learning Goals: Workshop participants will:
• understand the historical context of women in STEM programs and a framework for promoting gender equity in organizations
• obtain tools to manage, evaluate, brand, and fund your program
• develop a network of support through other participants
Materials: Workshop attendees will receive the WEPAN Director’s Guide and supplemental materials.
Activities: Activities include presentation of materials, small group discussions, and open question-and-answer opportunities.
