NDSEG FELLOW OPPORTUNITIES

NDSEG Fellows have numerous summer and postgraduate opportunities with the Department of Defense. These exciting opportunities are sponsored by the Army Research Office, Office of Naval Research, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, and the High Performance Computing Modernization Program.

Naval Research Enterprise Intern Program (NREIP):

This ten-week summer intern program is designed to provide opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to participate in research, under the guidance of an appropriate research mentor, at a participating Navy laboratory. To be eligible, applicants must be: a U.S. citizen (Permanent Resident Alien status considered at some labs); a Junior, Senior, or Graduate Student (students can participate between their Sophomore and Junior year); and enrolled at a participating university.

AFOSR Research Associate Program:

Awards are made to doctoral level scientists and engineers who can apply their special knowledge and research talents to research areas that are of interest to them and to the Air Force laboratories and centers. Awards are made to Postdoctoral Associates (within 5 years of the doctorate) and Senior Associates (normally 5 years or more beyond the doctorate). Each awardee works in collaboration with a Research Adviser, who is a staff member of the research laboratory.

Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL):

The AFRL is the heart of science and technology for the United States Air Force. The men and women of AFRL are creating the Air Force of the future-turning science fiction into science fact. AFRL is responsible for developing the systems crucial to aerospace superiority.

High Performance Computing Modernization Program:

The High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) was initiated in 1992 in response to congressional direction to modernize the Department of Defense (DoD) laboratories' high performance computing (HPC) capabilities. The HPCMP was assembled out of a collection of small high performance computing departments each with a rich history of supercomputing experience that had independently evolved within the Army, Air Force, and Navy laboratories and test centers.

Naval Research Lab Postdoctoral Fellowship Program:

The Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) sponsors a Postdoctoral Fellowship Program at a number of Naval R&D centers and laboratories. The program is designed to significantly increase the involvement of creative and highly trained scientists and engineers from Academia and industry to scientific and technical areas of interest and relevance to the Navy.

Space Scholars Program:

The Program invites undergraduate, masters, and doctorate students in the areas of science and engineering to participate in a unique summer program that may lead to graduate fellowships and full-time employment. These opportunities exist in the Air Force Research Laboratory's (AFRL) Space Vehicles Directorate, which has facilities at Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, New Mexico; Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford, Massachusetts; Solar Research, Sunspot, New Mexico; and the Air Force Maui Optical and Supercomputing Site, Maui, Hawaii.

The forte of our Space Scholars Program lies in the close interaction between the student and one of the laboratory's highly regarded researchers. These researchers function as a Mentor and offer close support and guidance to the student carrying out the research.
