FOUNDING PROFESSOR/DIRECTOR OF BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING

West Chester University invites applications from highly qualified candidates with the vision and leadership skills to direct the development of the new biomedical engineering program within the College of The Sciences and Mathematics. The position, which will start in August 2018, will be offered at the rank of Associate Professor or Full Professor, depending on the qualifications of the successful candidate. The founding faculty member will have responsibility for managing future faculty hires in the program, developing a solid curriculum, and planning for ABET accreditation of the program. Eventually, this faculty member will serve as Chair of a newly formed Department of Biomedical Engineering. The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related field, have a distinguished record in research and scholarship that merits the appointment at a senior rank, a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate education, and demonstrated leadership, administrative, and interpersonal skills. The finalist will enjoy an opportunity to build a competitive biomedical engineering program in a region experiencing vigorous growth in biomedical, pharmaceutical and health care industries.

Founded in 1871, West Chester is a public, regional, comprehensive university and one of the fourteen campuses of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education. WCU enrolls more than of 17,000 students, is supported by 983 full and part-time faculty, and is organized into five colleges. The university is located 25 miles west of Philadelphia and strategically located in the center of the mid-Atlantic corridor between New York City and Washington, DC.

The Department of Physics and Engineering consists of twelve faculty members, offers a B.S. and B.S. Ed. in Physics, and participates in cooperative Physics-Engineering dual-degree programs with other universities.
