The College of Engineering (CoE) at Wayne State University (WSU) seeks candidates for multiple tenure-track faculty positions. CoE is a leader in the practical integration of teaching and research. Located in Midtown Detroit, WSU is a preeminent public urban research university known for academic and research excellence, success across a diverse student body, and meaningful engagement in its urban community. The college has more than 130 faculty with a student enrollment of 3,700.
The college is embarking on an initiative to create a world-class center of research excellence in cyber-physical systems (CPS). Currently, a sizeable group of faculty from multiple departments collaborate on cross-cutting research including work in areas such as sensors, smart buildings/infrastructure, wireless health, and intelligent transportation systems. Several positions will be filled for the 2018-19 academic year in the following disciplinary programs:
Mechanical engineering (posting #043050): concentration in robotics, autonomous systems, multi-agent dynamic systems, advanced mechatronic systems, and electric vehicles.
Computer science (posting #043066): concentration in both cyber-physical systems and smart cities.
Civil and environmental engineering (posting #043062): concentration in transportation engineering with applications in geometric design, traffic planning, transportation safety, or traffic operations.
Electrical and computer engineering (posting #043075): concentration in analog, mixed signal integrated circuits, RFICs and wireless transceivers for 5G and V2X communications in smart vehicles, embedded systems for the Internet of Things, and built-in self-test.
Electrical and computer engineering (posting #043077): concentration in hardware and software co-design for systems on chip, computer architecture, computer systems, cloud computing, hardware security.
Industrial and systems engineering (posting #043061): concentration in machine learning and signal processing as applied to cyber-physical systems, data integration across manufacturing lifecycle, digital manufacturing control for cyber-physical systems, analytics for digital manufacturing, supply chains, and product service systems.

Applicants must have earned a doctorate in the respective engineering disciplines by July 2018, show evidence of sustained peer-reviewed publications, have experience or strong interest in teaching and mentoring students, and have a strong commitment to scholarly collaboration with faculty within the college and university. We expect to make appointments at the assistant professor level, but will consider exceptional candidates at the associate professor level. The positions’ start date is August 15, 2018.
Successful candidates must have the ability to: (a) develop and maintain a productive research program, including external funding; (b) supervise the thesis and dissertation research of graduate students; (c) teach undergraduate and graduate courses; and (d) contribute to college and university service activities.
