The first year at a university can be difficult even for the most well-prepared students. This session will introduce participants to ​programs at UC Berkeley that seek to increase the success and retention of firs​t​-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students in engineering. The presenters will share their expertise in designing and implementing first-year experience programs that have transformed the undergraduate experience of students from these populations. The ​PREP Program is a summer bridge program for incoming freshman in UC Berkeley's College of Engineering. The T-PREP program serves the unique needs of community college transfer students transferring into the College of Engineering. students. Aside from PREP and T-PREP, UC Berkeley also offers students comprehensive learning communities such as the Engineering Scholars as Engaged Scholars which engages students at the intersection of environmental justice, social justice and engineering.
