Bill Kline is Associate Dean of Innovation and Professor of Engineering Management at Rose-Hulman. He joined Rose-Hulman in 2001 and his teaching and professional interests include systems engineering, design, quality, innovation, and entrepreneurship.
Prior to joining Rose-Hulman, his industry experience includes roles as cofounder and Chief Operating Officer at Montronix and development manager at Kennametal.
Bill is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Illinois College and a Bronze Tablet graduate of University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign where he received a Ph.D. degree in Mechanical Engineering.
William D. Schindel is president of ICTT System Sciences, a systems engineering company, and developer of the Systematica Methodology for model and pattern-based systems engineering. His 40-year engineering career began in mil/aero systems with IBM Federal Systems, Owego, NY, included service as a faculty member of Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and founding of three commercial systems-based enterprises. He has consulted on improvement of engineering processes within automotive, medical/health care, manufacturing, telecommunications, aerospace, and consumer products businesses. Schindel earned the BS and MS in Mathematics.
Joe Tranquillo is a professor at Bucknell University where he currently serves as the Director of the Teaching and Learning Center. He was the second hire in a new biomedical engineering program, which has since grown to 7 faculty, 70 students, gained accreditation and has been ranked three times in a row as the number one undergraduate biomedical engineering program by US News and World Report. At Bucknell he co-founded the Bucknell Innovation Group, KEEN Winter Interdisciplinary Design Experience and served as the co-director of the Institute for Leadership in Technology and Management. Off campus, he is a National Academy of Engineering Frontiers of Engineering Education Fellow, Senior Fellow of IEEE, NSF Pathways to Innovation Faculty Fellow, past chair of the ASEE Biomedical Engineering Division, current chair of the ASEE Interdivisional Committee, past co-editor of the Morgan and Claypool Biomedical Engineering Book Series, Media Director for BigBeacon and serves on several national and international boards.
He has been recognized with several awards including two National Biomedical Engineering Teaching Awards, The national KEEN outstanding faculty award, and has been nominated twice for the CASE US Professor of the Year. Joe is the author of four books and his work, conducted exclusively with undergraduates, has been feature on the Discovery Channel, TEDx and CNN Health. He has received funded from NASA, NIH, NSF, Kern Family Foundation, VentureWell Foundation, Degenstein Foundation, and the US Department of Defense. He has delivered intensive teaching workshops throughout in the United States and internationally, including Finland, Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, and the United Kingdom. Joe earned his BS from Trinity College, his PhD from Duke, is a visiting faculty member at the Universidad Catolica de Chile in Santiago and was a visiting scholar at the Scientific Computing and Imaging Institute (University of Utah) and Stanford Technology Ventures Program.
Ashley Bernal is an Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. She received her PhD from Georgia Institute of Technology in 2011. She was an American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) teaching fellow and Student Teaching Enhancement Partnership (STEP) Fellow. Prior to receiving her PhD, she worked as a subsystems engineer at Boeing on the Joint Unmanned Combat Air Systems (JUCAS) program. Her research areas of interest include piezoelectrics, nanomanufacturing, optical measuring techniques, and intercultural design.
After earning my B.S. in Engineering Science at Penn State University (2007), I began working as an audio-video engineer/designer. I then made a career transition to teach high school physics. Having sparked my love for education, I went back to school to earn my M.S. in Industrial & Systems Engineering (2015) and my Ph.D. in Engineering Education (2016). My first faculty job was at Rowan University in southern New Jersey, where I had the honor of helping develop their first-year engineering and B.S. in Engineering Entrepreneurship programs. I’m now blessed to be at CCU contributing to what God's doing through our Industrial & Systems Engineering program and university.
