Associate Dean
The University of Akron Associate Dean for Research The College of Engineering at The University of Akron seeks an effective administrative leader to serve as Associate Dean for Research. The successful candidate is expected to assist in growing the College of Engineering’s research activities, and will be responsible for: assisting with college-wide strategic planning; faculty development with respect to grant proposal writing and funding source identification; industrial and government outreach efforts; marketing the College’s research capabilities; and the allocation of financial and facilities resources to enhance the research enterprise. The position brings unique opportunities for developing research initiatives and for demonstrating forward-looking leadership. The College seeks an individual with an exemplary record of scholarly and professional accomplishment and grant funding sufficient for hiring at the rank of Professor with tenure. A Doctoral degree in Engineering or closely related field with experience in research administration is required. The Associate Dean for Research is responsible to the Dean of the College of Engineering. The University of Akron (www.uakron.edu), positioned to be the premier research public university of northern Ohio, is one of the largest public universities in the state with an enrollment of approximately 24,000 students in over 200 undergraduate and graduate majors within degree granting colleges. The College of Engineering consists of the departments of Biomedical, Chemical and Biomolecular, Civil, Electrical and Computer, and Mechanical Engineering. Currently the College has 1760 undergraduate and 280 graduate students pursuing degrees. All undergraduate degrees are accredited by ABET, and a significant number of our undergraduate students are enrolled in the Honors College, receive scholarships, and participate in the co-operative education program, the fifth oldest in the US. The College’s 69 diverse faculty have won numerous national and international awards. In the first ten months of FY2008, the faculty have 79 active research awards totaling 6.1 million dollars. FACULTY POSITION
The Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Washington invites applications or nominations for one and possibly two full-time, tenure-track faculty position(s) to begin September 16, 2009. The Department is seeking at the Assistant and Associate Professor levels, although an appointment may be made at the rank of Professor if circumstances and qualifications warrant. We are a faculty of 14 with 65 graduate students and 130 undergraduates (juniors and seniors only). Research strengths include, nanotechnology, photonics, biotechnology, immunology, organic electronics, electrochemical engineering, fuel cells, computational methods, colloids, and interfacial phenomena. Candidates will be expected to provide innovative and quality teaching that integrates molecular and nanoscale principles of research with instruction at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. A Ph.D. degree is required. Candidates in the final stages of a doctoral degree program may be appointed on an acting basis.

Job Summary:
The Director of Worldwide Education Strategy and Marketing will lead an existing team that will formulate and execute on strategy and marketing for supporting and promoting the use of MathWorks products for cutting-edge research, curriculum development, and teaching in engineering, science, mathematics and finance.
Responsibilities:
develop and enhance our strategy for the education community including support, training and products for students, faculty and researchers;
manage the implementation of that strategy with other resources in marketing, sales, service, and development;
support the sales organization with marketing programs and campaigns and a vibrant website dedicated to the academic community;
direct research that quantifies market potential in core and emerging technology areas;
create and manage a university relations model with an educational advisory board;
evolve the Academic Support program to increase focus and investment in engineering, science, mathematics and finance;
evolve the Book Program to grow the development of textbooks in established and emerging areas;
work as part of a cross-functional licensing team to analyze the license model and recommend appropriate license model changes.
Qualifications:
Knowledge of worldwide higher education systems including both degree granting and non-degree granting institutions
10+ years experience in the use of technology in higher education, either through direct research and teaching experience, or support of those functions at academic/research institutions, or marketing strategy management experience
Familiarity with academic processes, including those for curriculum development, textbook and related materials development
Knowledge of the technical computing market
10+ years experience in project, program, operations and personnel management, including demonstrated strength at growing teams, developing skills of reports, and supervisory and influence management
Strong process-orientation, exceptional analytical abilities, highly developed collaboration, organizational, project management and communication skills
B.S. in engineering; M.S. or Ph.D. in engineering, physics, computer science, mathematics or related field and/or MBA a strong plus
