ASEE’s mission statement commits ASEE to "exercise worldwide leadership in engineering education," "encourage international communication and collaboration," and “facilitate international cooperation in matters pertaining to engineering education.” By offering international opportunities for collaboration and facilitating interconnectivity between stakeholders in engineering education, ASEE strives to enhance its services to the members in the United States and their counterparts in other parts of the world. Being an international leader in engineering education, ASEE seeks to facilitate productive global collaborations among industry, academe, and government and to increase participation in its activities to more completely serve the engineering and engineering technology enterprise. International cooperation in matters pertaining to engineering education is particularly crucial to the U.S. engineering community as it endeavors to enhance its capacity to attract and retain highly-skilled engineering professionals, to advance research in engineering education, and to foster collaboration between scholars and practitioners.
The 2012 Inaugural International Forum will occur June 9 and 10 in San Antonio, TX. The event will be held in collaboration with sister societies devoted to engineering education from China, India, Japan, Malaysia, and Korea. There will be one plenary devoted to innovations in engineering education in each of these nations. The 1.5 day Forum (all day Saturday and Sunday through Noon) will highlight bi-lateral educational activities focused on student development, curricular and laboratory development, and faculty development. There will also be hands-on interactive sessions led by industry showcasing applications of learning technologies in engineering.
ASEE’s International Programs are carried out by its International Department, which has the following strategic goals:
ASEE’s International Department is in constant contact with engineering education stakeholders worldwide, forging new relationships and nurturing existing ones, in order to strengthen the connection between the U.S. engineering education community and the rest of the world.
