2010 ASEE K-12 Workshop on Engineering Education
Presented by Dassault Systèmes
“Discovering Engineering in the Classroom”

Photo Slideshow

Thank you for joining us in Louisville for the seventh annual ASEE Workshop on K-12 Engineering Education. "Discovering Engineering in the Classroom" was a huge success, drawing 300+ attendees — the largest turnout ever. The day-long event featured a series of presentations by experts on innovative, effective ways to present engineering in the classroom. A new format including an impressive panel of K-12 leaders, focus groups and follow-up reports enabled teachers to interact over key issues. An exciting array of 19 sessions were offered. A presentation about how teachers can use the eGFI website was also a big hit. The Kentucky Department of Education approved the workshop for 8 hours of credits through EILA, for instructional leadership and professional development credits.

During the hands-on sessions, teachers experimented with such class activities as using catapults to explain math principles and parachutes to explore the concept of "drag." Teachers flew airplanes, built tinfoil boats, and tested sound insulation. Sponsored by Dassault Systemes, the workshop also presented new features of the firm's K-12 software that allows users to assess the carbon footprint of their designs. Click on the slide show above to view memorable moments; read a summary of the morning session; and, below, view pdfs of presentations.
