Engineering Academic Leadership Workshop
Ocean County College, Toms River, NJ
Thursday, November 1, 2012 • 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Description: This workshop is designed to help emerging academic leaders (i.e., prospective department chairs and deans) develop the full potential of their leadership abilities. During this one-day meeting, participants are actively involved in various experiential activities and dialogue to wrestle with the issues surrounding “leadership” from their perspective and experience.

Topics to be discussed include:

  • understanding effective leadership principles/practices in the organization, up, down and across boundaries;
  • a look at participants’ own set of beliefs about leadership and change, as well as their personal strengths/traits;
  • how to lead faculty to create a culture of innovation that welcomes and initiates change;
  • understanding stakeholder mindset: faculty vs. administration;
  • how effective leadership skills in academia can build links with external supporters, model leadership for students, and impact the whole institution.
