University of Michigan-Lecturer

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (https://me.engin.umich.edu/), is seeking to fill up to three full-time or part-time lecturer positions for three-year renewable appointments that will begin in the Fall semester of 2021. We seek applications from individuals in all areas of mechanical engineering who will contribute to our educational mission. We are particularly interested in applicants who:

i) could instruct in one or more core mechanical engineering classes at the undergraduate level
ii) could assist with instructional support of student teams within the design program
iii) would have some familiarity with our existing curriculum

The specific courses taught will depend on expertise and interest. Candidates with demonstrated experience in teaching and pedagogical methods are preferred.

Required qualifications include a PhD in engineering, or a BS/MS degree with 3-5 years of relevant industry experience. Desired qualifications include a demonstrated commitment to teaching and education, as well as a strong motivation to improve the educational experience and engage students in experiential learning.

We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute, through their teaching and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. The University of Michigan is responsive to the needs of dual-career families. To apply, please submit a cover letter, current CV, DEI statement, teaching statement, and list of professional references to the University of Michigan Mechanical Engineering website: http://ummecheng.in/melecturersearch. Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis; however, preference will be given to applications received prior to April 1, 2021.

The University of Michigan has a strong commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Details of the University’s comprehensive, five-year, DEI strategic plan – with updates on our programs and resources dedicated to ensuring a welcoming, fair, and inclusive environment – can be found at: diversity.umich.edu.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

The University of Michigan is an Equal Opportunity-Affirmative Action Employer.
