1.The Academy of ASEE Fellow Member
Breakfast Meeting was called to order by Chairman
John Calhoun at 7:15 A.M.
2.The Minutes of the previous meeting of June 28,
1995, mailed in September 1995 were adopted as distributed.
The Chairman announced that deceased members since
our last meeting included Anthony Giordano, ASEE Past
President.
3.Chairman John Calhoun welcomed the new Fellow Members
present who were R.M. Felder, K.K. Gowdy and Thomas
W. Weber and indicated that the others selected were
M.R. Berman (U. of Maryland), Ray M. Bowen (Texas
A&M Univ.), E.A. Hiler (Texas A&M Univ.), A.T. Johnson
(U. of Maryland) and C.N. Papadakis (Drexel Univ.).
Nomination of future candidates was encouraged and
a reminder was given to Headquarters to request identification
tags with registration packets of the Fellows.
4.Greetings from Headquarters were given by Director
Frank Huband who introduced Ms. Page Pokel who will
now be in charge of Membership activities. He also
described the information on the WEB site, the Proceedings
on CD-ROM and details concerning the Registration
process.
5.The following comments by attendees deserve recording:
Lyle Feisel - indicated a need for the "Voice of Engineering
Education" - a wider public explanation of the teaching
side ofengineering; more detail in planning; and the
maintenance of stature in our Publications.
James Meriam - described the problem of fewer students
going on to graduate school and the long range consequences.
John Weese - described activities of the Project Board;
the need to cultivate our successors; a central source
for information about engineering education; faculty
development and ASEE student chapters.
Howard Wakeland - reminded us about the importance
of meeting locations and the desirability of "getting
back to the campus".
6. Elections of Officers for 1996-97 - after being
duly nominated by those present the following were
elected:
7. Chairman John Calhoun then suggested the following topics for action:
8. Moved Page, seconded Tilmans - That
a recommendation be made to the officers of the Society
to consider a National Agenda for the Society - Passed.
(At this point Curt Tompkins suggested that a starting
point might be the sixteen issues raised in the Augustine/Vest
report).
9. Adjournment - the meeting was declared adjourned
by the chairman at 8:15 A.M. followed by an expression
of appreciation by all those present for the role
that Chairman Calhoun has played in formalizing the
activities of the Academy of ASEE Fellows during the
past four years.
