The Chair, endowed in 1928, is named for Stevens' past president Alexander Crombie Humphreys, a graduate of Stevens' Class of 1881, who served from 1902 to 1927. The chair was established “To fund Stevens’ efforts in engineering economics and keep ahead of industry's demands on it.” Humphreys is credited as a founder of the field of Engineering Economics, which in many ways prefigures Stevens' current innovation-to-implementation educational philosophy of Technogenesis®. The Alexander Crombie Humphreys Chair is intended for an individual with a Ph.D. in Engineering, Managerial Economics or closely related fields, who has exceptional achievement in any aspect of Economics of Engineering and a history of successful research collaboration. This individual will champion the use of value in value-based systems thinking. We seek a dynamic individual with demonstrated leadership skills who has a clear vision for using the Economics of Engineering to help address critical systems challenges that we face in the 21st century. The ideal candidate will have innovative and impactful research, exemplified by a robust publication and sponsored research record.
