The Grinter Report
Summary of the Report on Evaluation of Engineering
Education
This report, first published in 1955 by the ASEE
Committee on Evaluation of Engineering Education,
is considered a major work in the development of engineering
curricula and formed the basis of early ABET accreditation.
It outlines specific objectives for both the technical
and humanities areas of study necessary for future
engineers and was the first time in the development
of engineering education that the curriculum was divided
into four segments:
1) humanities and social sciences,
2) mathematics and basic sciences,
3) engineering science, and
4) engineering specialty subjects and electives.
It is named for the committee's chair, Linton E.
Grinter.
