Cornell University - Assistant/Associate/Full Professor

Assistant/Associate/Full Professor in the area of Dynamics related to Structures and Materials

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell University (Ithaca campus) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the broad area of dynamics related to the mechanics of structures and materials. Our definition of structures is broad and includes buildings, bridges, dikes, wind turbines, and solar devices/solar panels.

We are interested in applicants whose research is related to any of the following or related areas:
• Material and/or structural response to dynamic loading arising from wind, waves, blast, seismic waves
• Sensors, sensing applications, structural health monitoring, and related data fusion problems
• Materials and/or structural design considering dynamic loading from extreme weather, natural or
• man-made hazards.
• Vibration control and tuned damping, sustainable energy technologies, energy harvesting

Computational, theoretical, or experimental research programs are all encouraged. In general, we prioritize the overall originality and promise of the applicant's work, rather than the sub-area of specialization.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. and will be expected to maintain a rigorous program of leading-edge research and contribute to the undergraduate, Master of Engineering, and M.S./Ph.D. course curricula in structural dynamics and other courses within a focus area related to the mechanics of structures and materials. The ability to form large research teams to address complex problems will be viewed favorably, as well as utilization of our laboratory facilities and potential linkages to Cornell Tech (NYC campus).

Applicants at the assistant professor level are strongly encouraged and candidates at the associate and full professor levels will also be considered. Salary and rank will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Review of applications will begin Dec 1, 2024 and will continue until the position is filled.

The School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Cornell embraces diversity and seeks candidates who will contribute to a climate that supports students, faculty and staff of all identities and backgrounds. We strongly encourage individuals from underrepresented and/or marginalized identities to apply.

Application materials must be submitted on-line at: https://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/28645

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae and three brief statements (1-2 pages per statement): (1) a research statement, (2) a teaching statement, and (3) a statement of contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). Candidates are encouraged to review Cornell University’s guidance for writing DEI statements here. In addition to the statements, candidates should include one to three publications or manuscripts, and provide contact information for at least three references.
