Training and Experience:
The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin-Madison seeks applications from individuals who will develop, teach and support curriculum that significantly extends or enhances educational opportunities for students in the department. We are particularly interested in applicants who:
i) Have strong interest in teaching topics that that include mechatronics, computational engineering, senior design,
introduction to mechanical engineering and other core mechanical engineering classes.
ii) Have a commitment to excellence, distinction and innovation in teaching, advancement of pedagogical methods, and a strong motivation to improve the department's educational programs and engage students in experiential learning.
iii) Can instruct one or more core mechanical engineering classes at the undergraduate level, offer elective classes at the senior/graduate level and assist with instructional support of labs and senior design projects, particularly within the area of mechatronics. Educational offerings should involve significant experiential activities that require students to bring together different aspects of the curriculum. The specific courses taught will depend on expertise, interest and department needs.
iv) Engage in activities that advance boundaries of engineering education and are disseminated in conference and/or peer-reviewed papers related to engineering education.
v) Have the potential to engage industry and other external collaborators in an educational context.
Hiring at the Assistant or Associate level will depend on accomplishments and experience including but not limited to; a strong record of teaching, classroom innovation, accomplishments in the scholarship of teaching and learning, independently developing and designing a range of courses in a field of expertise, assessing student performance, providing formal or informal advising on students’ academic and career directions, supervising student employees delivering instruction, scholarly contributions to assessing engineering education practices, and collaborating with faculty and staff in the development of teaching strategies.

Please note: The process for placement into the Teaching Professor and Research Professor titles is to be determined. Designs, teaches, and facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction within an academic discipline to ensure quality delivery of instruction and integration of content within an academic work unit. Each department must define the specific substantive criteria for level advancement, however, differences between successively higher title levels must reflect demonstrable differences in experience and knowledge gained, applied to the specific duties of the function. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.
PhD in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field, with commitment to excellence, distinction and innovation in instructional activities and educational programs.
