The Department of Civil, Architectural, and Environmental Engineering at the Missouri University of Science & Technology (Missouri S&T) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in geotechnical engineering starting from August 2018. Applicants from all areas of geotechnical engineering or geomechanics will be considered, and the individual’s intellectual depth and promise in both research and teaching are of the highest priority. Candidates in emerging areas relevant to multi-scale characterization; modeling and assessment of seismic activity and natural hazard prevention/mitigation; geo-environmental engineering, such as municipal solid waste landfills; retaining walls and deep foundations are strongly encouraged to apply. The appointment is anticipated to be filled at the assistant professor level.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an active, externally-funded research program and have a strong commitment to teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Candidates must have an earned undergraduate degree in engineering from an ABET/EAC accredited program or equivalent and an earned PhD in civil engineering or a closely related field with a program of study and research that emphasized geotechnical engineering and geomechanics, including experimentation and computation. Superior communication and interpersonal skills, leadership capabilities, and the ability to engage in collaborative and interdisciplinary research are required. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with other engineering disciplines such as mining, petroleum, chemical, biological, and geological engineering. Collaboration with other fields of science including chemistry, physics, and mathematics are also considered a plus. Practical experience will be highly valued, as is professional licensure. Licensure as a professional engineer, or similar, is expected within six years of the appointment.
