Assistant Professor of Practice, Construction Management

About the Department/College
The Construction Management (CM) Program serves 345 undergraduate students and is accredited by the American Council for Construction Education. The Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering Programs (CENE) jointly serve 287 undergraduate and 18 graduate students and are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
The CM Program receives substantial industry support, allowing us to tap into a broad range of expertise. The Generation Next Sponsorship program provides external funding for faculty development and travel; curriculum improvements; and student competitions and field trips. This industry support also allows us to offer the Construct for Practice (C4P) lab, which is a hands-on academic experience that differentiates our program from the competition. Our faculty includes recognized and award-winning teachers who have extensive construction and management experience.
About the Position
We seek candidates with a passion for teaching undergraduate students who have recent and relevant domestic construction and/or engineering industry experiences. The primary duties will be in-person classroom teaching in the Construction Management Program, with options to teach in the Civil Engineering Program depending on qualifications and departmental needs. The successful candidate will be hired as a full-time, non-tenure track, benefit-eligible Assistant Professor of Practice. This is a nine-month academic year position which will start in the Fall of 2026 on the Flagstaff Mountain Campus, with potential of Spring 2026 start depending on candidate availability and search timeline.
This is a renewable position pending satisfactory job performance, availability of funding, and program need. Construction Management faculty are eligible to apply for funds from our Friends of Faculty Endowment for travel and professional development support. The ideal candidate will have one of the following sets of education, skills and experience:
1. Five or more years of domestic construction and/or engineering experience and a master's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or a related field OR
2. Five or more years of domestic construction and/or engineering experience and a bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or a related field; and Master of Business Administration or equivalent OR
3. Ten or more years of domestic construction and/or engineering experience and a bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or a related field.
Responsibilities Include
Teach four classes each semester in areas based on qualifications, in areas that may include, but are not limited to the following:
• Infrastructure
• Geotechnical
• Project management and control
• Construction project estimating and scheduling
• Building systems
• Construction materials, means and methods
• Construction documentation (plan reading)
Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Managing courses using online Learning Management System (LMS).
• Service to department, university and profession.
• Curriculum Development.
• Maintenance of professional currency, relevance and certification.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture or related field.
• 5 years U.S. construction and/or engineering experience.
*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications
• Construction and/or engineering experience in excess of 5 years.
• Teaching experience and/or training.
• Experience in fields related to Geotechnical and/or Infrastructure.
• Industry certifications and/or professional registration.
• Scholarly, creative, and/or professional achievements.
• Master's or Doctorate degree by date of appointment.

• Knowledge of strategic planning, budget development, fiscal planning, and management techniques.

• Organizes and coordinates others in developing, implementing, and evaluating short- and long-term goals, standards, curriculum, and programs.
Compensation
Annual salary commensurate with candidate's qualifications and related experience.
